Our Edinburgh Story

The Mercy Centre

Mercy Spirituality

Homeless Project

Every founder and foundress had a special calling to found an Order which concentrated on some particular aspect of the Gospel message. Catherine McAuley, who founded the Sisters of Mercy in the early nineteenth century, wanted to imitate the Mercy of God as seen exemplified in His Son, Jesus Christ. We, as Sisters of Mercy, vow to assist the poor, sick and needy through the Spiritual and Corporate works of Mercy. In our days there is a great need to involve the laity in these Works of Mercy, not only because our own numbers are dwindling, but also for the good reason that all Christians are called to the imitation of Christ, by active involvement in the mission of the Church.
