My hope for 2008 is that our Mercy Centre will continue in the spirit of our Foundress Catherine McAuley who in the words of her contemporary Francis Warde “was a woman of God and God made her a woman of vision, She helped us to see the World and its people in terms of God’s love: to love everyone who needed love, to care for everyone who needed care. If we wish to sow seeds of real hope in our world I think that Catherine McAuley would say this is the way we must do it – one person at a time – one opening of the door; one entrance of the stranger; one welcoming of the other; one sharing of our bread – ONE PERSON AT A TIME.

It is this vision of our Foundress which encourages us to go forward knowing that we are here for others especially for our wounded and needy sisters and brothers who share with us our daily journey. Those who long for a word of kindness and encouragement; who need to be given back their self-esteem and confidence; who want to feel welcomed accepted and cared for but never judged. We try to live out this vision with the help of our Mercy co-workers and associates.

The year 2007 has been an eventful one with its highs and lows. The highlight for us was the visit by Mary McAleese, the President of Ireland to our Centre. For this we thank the Consul General of Ireland Cliona Manahan. Many of our friends died over the past year, three regulars being Dusty, Eric and Peter. May they rest in the peace of the Lord.
