"God knows I would rather be cold and hungry than that the poor should be deprived of any consolation in our power to afford".

(Letters, 1st Nov, 1838)

For Catherine

Mercy was

where the need was,

And where she saw need,

she saw Christ,

She equated Mercy with Justice

and she tried to redress

injustices, whether

spiritual, material, social or cultural.

She would urge us to do the same,

in a darkened world

where bewildered people

are crying out

for some touch,

some contact with God.

This is what Yahweh asks of you:
      to act justly,
      to love tenderly,
      to walk humbly
      with your God.

Micah 6;8
